Tunnel fire anniversary

The headline on today’s paper says it all “10 years already”. Today marks the grim 10th anniversary of the fatal Mont Blanc tunnel fire in which 39 people lost their lives. As with most disasters, this was probably avoidable, and following the accident, more stringent safety procedures and equipment have been put in place, now making it a very safe tunnel to use. Here we honour those who lost their lives, and what makes the situation especially poignant is that so many who died were locals from Chamonix and Courmayeur. We support the campaign to stop the use of the tunnel by lorries. For more details;
